Media Literacy

Pazinatto writes:
I use media literacy strategy in my drug prevention classes. Images from advertising are frequently used. Like as attached. In class my students analysed the adverts. Here in Brazil tobacco advertising are restricted to point of sale and we need to use old tobacco adverts. Is true that we need to contextualize but the result is very interesting. Thereafter they must write a blog post about their impressions and how this advert could be impact their life, if they are lived in that era. They also need to try change tobacco for another product. Quickly they choose beer. Beer advertising in Brazil are massive and learned with tobacco strategies.

The Padlet Word Wall

In looking at Padlet word walls, Shauna writes:

Firstly, I love Padlet, what a great visual collaborative tool!  Ways to use it:
1} Like as Kyra mentioned and how we used it, as an introduction piece
2) It becomes an interactive white board, students can curate their knowledge on this for particular topics - whole class or in groups - and then come together to share
3) It could also be used as a brainstorming tool for out of class/on - line portion and then when you meet again you can analyze the ideas and plan for the next step
4) From looking at other examples on the site, Padlet can also be used as a tool to sum up one's learning or a groups learning.  Sharing what they have learned at the 'end' of a learning endeavor.

Share the tech with the class

In discussing different ways to use technology in the classroom, Zachary shared this idea:

I use google translate and project it on the board or TV for the class to see. I can then change the translation to accommodate many different languages.

"Resouceful"

Kyra writes,
As a teacher, I have always considered myself resourceful.  Teaching abroad in the past has made me appreciate the resources I have here close to home, but also encouraged me to use my creativity to create materials for my students that were not easily available.  No matter what resources we are able to access, I think teachers should always reflect on how they can use what they have to best meet the needs of their students.

In what ways have you been resourceful recently?

"Different"

The topic; Think of ONE word that is a personal strength that you have honed or built from experience.  What sort of life experiences helped you build this strength? Perhaps you learned this when you were young; perhaps a more recent experience has shaped you.  How is this strength a tool that helps you teach?
Here is an excerpt from what Kathy says:

DIFFERENT

I like to look at things differently. For example, this is one of my own photos below.......Sometimes we have to zoom in when we look at things, other times step back for a larger view, or look from the side, the top, or even stand on our heads!
What do you see? How could this photo be used for an internet assignment that ties in with an outside activity? Click "comment" below to add your thoughts.
